Spring Trends 2009 : A Mismatched Affair

Ran out of ideas to dress up stylishly? Try this. Blindfold yourself, pull out all the clothes from your closet, shuffle them, pick two pieces from them and wear them.It worked for these girls, see whether it works for you too!!!

I'm the brightest.

Don't let my lighter side befool you.

I'm painting the town red.

I have the biggest bow in town.

Never let your dog get too hungry!!!

The Red Green Show

Not sure, whether in these trying times everyone can afford to dress like a "princess-off-to-a ball" without caring a fig about the economic downturn, but the mere sight of ornate beauties like these in bright colors, seems to reinforce ample optimism in us, making us believe that good times aren't far ahead. After all, what is fashion if it isn't comforting!!! Cheers to Oscar de la Renta for his splendid Resort 2009 Collection.

On The Cover - Anna Hathway

Come Jan 2009, you have more to expect than just the New Year ahead and a bunch of mint fresh unbroken resolutions that tag along with it, for on the January issue of Vogue, we have the oh-so-pretty Anne Hathaway with her new found slim body(which she attributes to her return to vegetarianism post breakup with her ex, as well as some serious kick boxing and strength training), posing prettily on the cover and thereafter spilling the beans about her life so far.And for all you impatient folks, here is a glimpse of "the most beautiful creature in movies today"(quoted by none other than the legend Meryl Streep).Warning:Some serious ogling ahead!!!

Feeling like an Angel "zipped" from heaven.

Putting the year behind in style.

The future sure looks bright.

Excuse me, did I hear something about an "XXL mouth" ?

A Black And Yellow Date

On a date, would you do the funky one shoulder gathered sleeve Lanvin number or just let the colors play the magic and go for the simple off shouldered Requiem dress? The next season is sure one of contrasts, not just in the White House but on the fashion scene as well.Riot your imagination and make two contrasting colors work their magic, after all opposites attract, don't they??

Take Your Pick

Who wore it better? The model on the runway or Anne Hathaway? Anne Hathaway seems to have lost oodles of weight and is looking thinner than the runway model!! Anne, time into dig into those delectable apple pies.(The dress in question is from Gianfranco Ferré 's Spring 2009 Ready-To-Wear collection.)

Pearly Pant

Pearly White teeth = Nice To Have

Pearly pant = ??
Not sure of the answer? Boldly chic, is what John Galliano seems to be saying!!!

One Size Doesn't Fit All !!!

Another example of "a dress is as good as who wears it"!!! While the dress from Giambattista Valli's Spring 2009 Ready-To-Wear collection looks gorgeous on the model(right), it falls flat on Chiara making her look shorter and stockier than what she is in reality.

Who Is It? Answer.....

I got a lot of replies that the celebrity in question was the actor playing Charlie Chaplin.Unfortunately thats WRONG!!! Contrary to popular belief, it is the designer John Galliano(creative director of Christian Dior), playing one of his many fantastical avatars on the runway.

Black And White Morning

As you get ready for work on Monday morning, for once you are thankful for still having a place to go on every weekday called "office".With the days passing by, the only change that seems to be happening in your life is the number of your friends getting laid off. After a Thanksgiving week of sorts, you reminiscence how your mother always warned you about the ups and downs in life.Heaving a sign you reach out for your handbag, look at your shoes (pictured above), which your dear hubby was kind enough to bestow upon you as a little Thanksgiving present, and wonder why the highs and lows of your life cannot blend as harmoniously as the white and black on your shoes!!!So long, life goes on, another week, another challenge in another pair of shoes!!

P.S:Black and white color combo is a hot trend for spring 2009, which makes this pair very trendy and fashion forward.

Spring Trends 2009 : Get Knotty Part 1

The year is 2011, the economy in deep recession and dressing is reduced to saving your modesty rather than an extravagant affair that it once used to be.With bread retailing at $100 a loaf, people have barely anything to eat, let alone wear. The "size zeros" are no longer restricted to the ramps, rather they are the norm of the day.Wealth eroded and with that all vanity too.Dressing for occasion, place, mood, everything seems so distant.People just scrap whatever is left of their dresses, tie them together and wear them."Haute couture" is as extinct as the dodo. There is no concept of "size" any longer, the order of the day being "ONE SIZE FITS ALL".So if the clothes are too big, then they are gathered together and tied, to prevent from tripping and falling. An alien reconnaissancing Earth, had taken the following snaps of people going about their business on one such gloomy "spring of despair".

Tying the pieces together.

Too hungry to bother.

Remembering her scouting days.

Curtains to the rescue.

Nerds take it easy.

Making ends meet.

She's got large clothes to fit into.

Recession Savy Shoe Shopping At Marshall's

Tough times, scare jobs, uncertain future, a dwindling bank balance and still the insatiable need to keep adding to your shoe closet...How does an addicted shopper manage recession?Either by working overtime and getting killed in the process or finding ways to shop smarter.Whenever I mention the idea of a discounted shop, people always conjure images of heaps of clothes piled pell-mell, and shudder and ask me "How exactly do you shop at these stores?" Its a big fallacy to associate shops selling discounted merchandise with disorder. For example, at the Marshall's shoe mega shop, the shoes are neatly ordered and finding the requisite style and size is a breeze and not akin to finding a needle in a haystack. That said, the next question is "Will I find what I want?" Yes, definitely provided you know how to shop at a place like Marshall's.Generally when I shop at a upscale mall, I have a rigid look in mind, I know beforehand what I would be buying and I generally stick to that.On the contrary I would approach Marshall's with an open mind. With an idea of the key looks of the season, I do an initial dry run of the merchandise in the whole shop mentally marking what I would be buying, after which I just pick up my shopping bag and for once shop without guilt, without bothering to look at the price tags and above all not compromising on my favorite designers !! Putting a look together on the fly is so much fun and is one of the key joys of shopping which the internet has unfortunately robbed off late. And the last point to note is that to get the best deals, keep visiting Marshall's more frequently as they get new merchandise almost every other day and who knows, that Prada you were lusting for so long might just be sitting coyly at a corner waiting to be picked up!!! Enjoy your shopping!!

Spring 2009 Ready-To-Wear : Metallic Shoes

Spring 2009 Ready-To-Wear collection paraded many statement shoes.Shoes made a huge impact and are central in the accessories domain.Thats good news for all the Carrie Bradshaws out there.Gladiators are back with a vengeance - elaborate and grander.Heels are sculptured, taken to a different level with jaw dropping eccentric designs, wedges are sky high and detailed, shoes with ruffles in gold and silver sure don't fail to impress.
